Kunming, January 12,2026 – A 14-member delegation from Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU), Thailand, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Siwapong Tansuwanwong, Vice Dean of the School of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (STAM), recently paid a visit to the Yunnan International Joint Laboratory of Health Plant Resources Development (HPRD Lab) at the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB). The delegation, consisting of 2 academic staff and 12 students (3 master’s students in the Thai Traditional Medicine program and 9 bachelor’s students in the Technology of Herbs and Health Claim Products program), aimed to conduct academic learning and experience exchange focusing on the conservation and cultivation systems of medicinal plants as well as their application in human health.
During the visit, Director Ruyu Yao on behalf of the HPRD Lab delivered a detailed introduction to the delegation regarding the laboratory’s core work scope and the current status of cooperation with Thai institutions. In-depth discussions were held between the two sides on potential cooperation approaches in the field of health plant resources. Both parties reached a consensus on arranging mutual visits in the follow-up to negotiate and finalize formal cooperation agreements, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth collaboration in relevant fields.
Following the meeting, the Thai delegation toured the Kunming Botanical Garden. The delegates highly recognized the efforts and contributions made by China in plant diversity conservation, expressing admiration for the achievements in protecting and sustaining plant resources. This visit not only enhanced mutual understanding between CRRU and KIB but also provided a valuable platform for promoting academic exchanges and cooperation in traditional medicine and health plant resources between China and Thailand.
