The 4th International Conference on Mountain Futures opened in Kunming on September 25, 2025. During the three-day conference, participants will focus on the future of mountains under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and discuss innovative actions of indigenous peoples and communities in the utilization of biodiversity.
The theme of this conference is "Inclusive Bioeconomy: A Mountain Approach to Nature Positivity and Climate Resilience". It has set up four special sessions, namely: Indigenous Wisdom and Diverse Ecological Perspectives, Scientific Exploration and New-Quality Productive Forces, Ecological Restoration and Climate Resilience, and Future Life and Green Trade. More than 200 experts and scholars, representatives of indigenous peoples and communities, think tank members and government decision-makers from home and abroad will present their research work, share excellent practical cases, and discuss the development trends of various countries and regions as well as global hot topics.
The HPRD Lab project funded 11 Thai scholars to participate in this conference and deliver wonderful keynote reports.
Mountain Futures was jointly initiated in 2016 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), the World Agroforestry Centre, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). This initiative aims to enhance the well-being of mountain residents, restore and protect ecosystems, and learn and share green development solutions.
This conference is hosted by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
