At the invitation of the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, Dr. Yao Ruyu, Director of Yunnan International Joint Laboratory of Health Plant Resources Development (HPRD Lab), attended the China-ASEAN Dialogue on Traditional Medicine Cooperation and Pharmaceutical Industry Development in Haikou on April 29 2026, and delivered a speech in the roundtable session Industrial Cooperation and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations.
Supported by the China-ASEAN Cooperation Fund, the dialogue was hosted by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission and organized by the Administrative Committee of Haikou National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, in support of the China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership Vision 2030. Focusing on medicinal plants and traditional medicine, the event promoted policy dialogue, academic exchange, industrial collaboration and cultural mutual learning between China and ASEAN countries. It aimed to enhance people-to-people bonds through medical cooperation, boost regional development via win-win industrial cooperation, and contribute to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
During the discussion, Dr. Yao Ruyu elaborated on the diversity and differences of traditional medicine culture, resources, regulations and standards across ASEAN countries. He proposed that China-ASEAN cooperation in traditional medicine should seek compatible solutions amid such differences. In line with HPRD Lab’s mission and practices, he highlighted the importance of establishing official bilateral coordination mechanisms for practical and mutually beneficial cooperation in traditional medicine.
This participation has strengthened exchanges between HPRD Lab and ASEAN countries in traditional medicine, laying a solid foundation for future cross-border cooperation, standard alignment and industrial synergy.
